BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior defender Jeff Densk (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season to help the Niagara University men’s soccer team (5-5-2, 3-0-2) earned a 1-1 tie in double overtime against Canisius College (4-6-2, 2-2-1) Tuesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.
With the Purple Eagles trailing 1-0, sophomore Billy Gustafson (Rochester, N.Y.) flicked a ball off his head into the box where Densk headed it over Canisius keeper Matt Houghton in the 88th minute.
Canisius took a 1-0 lead in the four-minute mark when Alan McGreal played a through-ball to Simba Aberdeen, who tucked a shot into the left corner past Purple Eagle keeper John Fiutowski (Ottawa, N.Y.).
Fiutowski made four saves in net while Houghton had five.
The double overtime game was Niagara’s five consecutive and seventh overtime game of the season. St. Louis has the NCAA record of 11 set in 2003.
The Purple Eagles return to action this weekend when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to take on Marist College at 7 p.m. Friday.
