RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Sophomore Eric Brodfuehrer’s (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) goal in double overtime gave the Niagara University men’s soccer team (4-5-0, 2-0-0) a 1-0 win over Manhattan College (2-9-0, 0-2-0) Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Gaelic Park.
With the win, Niagara has started the league schedule 2-0 for the first time in school history.
Brodfuehrer scored from the edge of the box when his 25-yard shot slipped under the Manhattan goalkeeper in the 104th minute. The tally was the forwards second of the year.
Freshman John Fiutowski (Ottawa, Ont.) improved to 3-2-0 and 2-0-0 on the year with his first collegiate shutout. The goalkeeper made seven saves in the win.
After playing eight of their first nine games on the road, the Purple Eagles return to action next weekend when they host Rider Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. at Niagara Field.
