NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s golf team posted a team score of 302 to put them in fourth place at the Lafayette Invitational, played at the Center Valley Country Club in Center Valley, Pa.

"There was a lot of rain last night and the course was very wet," head coach Kevin Miller said. "The course should dry up a bit for tomorrow and we hope to finish strong."

American University leads the tournament with a team score of 297, while Binghamton and St. Bonaventure both posted scores of 301. American freshman Alex Wenzel and Robert Morris senior Ryan Mikita each posted the day’s low round of 71.

Niagara junior Andrew Burke (Rochester, N.Y.) led all Purple Eagles with a 74 – one stroke shy of his career low, posted in the first round of the Cornell Invitational, Sept. 25, 2004. He currently stands tied for ninth overall.

Three Purple Eagles each shot a six-over 76 on the day: senior Chris Agostinelli (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomores Chris Hart (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Dan Misko (Grand Island, N.Y.).

Freshman Mike Jarvis (Athol Springs, N.Y.), competing in the first event of his career after suffering back problems earlier this season, registered a 79.

Niagara looks to improve on its eighth-place finish last season, as the final 18 holes of the tournament begins tomorrow with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
