NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s golf team maintained its fourth-place position from start to finish at the 2005 JetBlue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship at the Magnolia Golf Course in Walt Disney World. The team registered a 307 Sunday for a three-day total of 916, three strokes shy of a top-three finish.
The team’s score of 916 is a six-stroke improvement over the 922 recorded at the Palm Golf Course in the 2004 MAAC Championship – a score that landed Niagara in third place. In 2003, when the MAAC Championship was last played at the Magnolia Golf Course, Niagara posted a sixth-place score of 956.
Two Purple Eagles placed among the top-ten in this year’s championship, as both junior Chris Agostinelli (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris Hart (Ithaca, N.Y.) posted a score of 227 through 54 holes. Each shot 76-77-74.
Only two other golfers posted a 74 or better Sunday, including the 2004 individual MAAC champion, Loyola senior T.J. Shuart, and the 2005 individual MAAC champion, Siena sophomore Bryan Bigley. Bigley led all golfers with a 5-under 211, including a tournament-low 66, Friday.
Niagara freshman Mike Jarvis (Athol Springs, N.Y.) placed third among the Purple Eagles, tied for 13
th overall. He posted scores of 73-79-77 in his first-ever MAAC Championship. Junior Andrew Burke (Rochester, N.Y.) shot an 82 Sunday after posting back-to-back 76’s Friday and Saturday. His three-day total of 234 ranked 20
th overall, while sophomore Dan Misko (Grand Island, N.Y.) shot 87-78-83=248, to place 34th.Loyola College won its third consecutive title and the team’s ninth overall, posting a team score of 877. Siena, tied with Loyola entering the final round, finished second with a score of 883 – 30 strokes ahead of third-place Rider.
