CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Niagara University men’s golf team opened play in the Third Annual Lafayette Invitational, at the Center Valley Golf Club, in Center Valley, Pa., Friday, posting an opening round score of 314. Led by sophomore Chris Agostinelli’s (Rochester, N.Y.) 4-over 76, the Purple Eagles are in a tie for 13th in the 24-team tournament.
Agostinelli, tied for 23rd in the individual competition, along with senior Brad Chapman (Skaneateles, N.Y.), who shot an 6-over 78, pace Niagara after the round one of the two-round event. Also posting scores for the Purple Eagles were Shaun Applegate (Tonawanda) and Chris Hart (Ithaca, N.Y.), both shooting 8-over 80, and freshman Jimmy Pizzutelli (East Amherst), who shot an 89 competing as an individual.
Binghamton University is the overall leader in the team standings after day one, with a combined score of 296, one shot ahead of second place American University.
Five players are tied for first place in the individual standings, all shooting an even par.
Second round competition is set to tee off at 8 a.m. Saturday.
