JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Niagara sophomore forward Joe Conjerti (Lockport) scored his first collegiate goal, however the Niagara University men’s soccer team (3-11-2, 1-4-1) fell to Saint Peter’s College (7-3-4, 4-1-0), 8-1, Sunday at Jaroschak Field, on the campus of Saint Peter’s.
Conjerti, beat Peacocks junior goalkeeper Pat Nagawiecki low to the left side of the net in the 75th minute, scoring the Purple Eagles’ lone goal in the loss.
Saint Peter’s was led by three players with two goals.
Peacocks freshmen Juan Gaviria and Murphy Wiredu, along with sophomore Marco Orias all had two goals in Sunday’s game against the Purple Eagles.
Orias, who also added an assist, had a part in the Peacocks’ first three goals, scoring the first and third goals for Saint Peter’s, while assisting on the second.
Wiredu, Saint Peter’s leading scorer, scored back-to-back goals in the 68th and 75th minute, leading the Peacocks with five shots in the contest.
Also tallying goals for Saint Peter’s in the win was senior Douglas Narvaez and junior Alberico De Pierro.
The Peacocks had a 6-0 lead prior to Conjerti’s goal, scoring three goals in the first half.
Saint Peter’s outshot the Purple Eagles, 24-5, in the win.
Nagawiecki made two saves for his seventh win of the season.
Both junior Eric Sullivan (Traverse City, Mich.) and freshman James McKenna (Pittsford, N.Y.) saw time in net for the Purple Eagles, making a combined five saves.
Niagara returns to action Friday, hosting conference-leading Loyola at Niagara Field.
