LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Niagara University men’s soccer team (4-12-2) had its season ended today when it lost, 4-1, to Saint Peter’s (15-4-2) in the quarterfinals of the 2003 JetBlue MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
"We dug ourselves a huge hole in the first half," Niagara head coach Dermot McGrane said. "It was too difficult to comeback from that kind of deficit. However, I was proud of the way our guys kept fighting throughout the game."
Niagara fell behind 1-0 early in the contest when Chris Megaloudis scored on a scramble in front of the net at the 3:19 mark.
The No. 3 seeded Peacocks made it 2-0 at the 23:08 mark when Megaloudis tallied his second goal of the game. His long shot got underneath senior Dan O’Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y.).
Rinaldo Chambers increased Saint Peter’s lead to 3-0 with a goal at the 29:21 mark.
Niagara got on the scoreboard when sophomore Mark Spooner (Derby, England) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 61 minute mark on a penalty kick. Peacock Vicente Caldas tallied Saint Peter’s final goal at the 63:31 mark.
O’Shea made eight saves in net and John Moschella made six for Saint Peter’s.
