Alonso had a solid freshman campaign which ended with a winning record in singles. The Cordoba, Mexico native was immediately inserted in the starting rotation, playing in the third and fourth singles spot. He won three of his first four matches to start his career, including finishing fifth in the "B" bracket of the Bucknell Invitational. The season ended with him winning four straight matches, which was the longest win streak on the team. He claimed straight-set wins over opponents from Bloomsburg, Colgate, Edinboro, and Lafayette. He won 10 matches which were second most on the team. He was 6-2 in dual matches, including going 3-0 in three singles. In doubles, Alonso accounted for seven wins. Alonso and partner Jorge Sedeno represented the Purple Eagles in doubles at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional. Alonso is majoring in business and had a 3.2 grade-point average in his first collegiate semester (fall 2019).
