Purple Eagles Rout The Jaspers

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles women's basketball team dominated conference opponent Manhattan on Saturday, defeating the Jaspers 65-42 in the Gallagher Center.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles got off to a quick offensive start, going on a 12-2 run in the final three minutes of the first quarter. Stroemple scored six straight points for Niagara and the Purple Eagles led the Jaspers, 19-10, going into the second quarter.  
  • Niagara took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring Manhattan 26-9. Rampado scored eight points in the quarter and threes from Rampado, Morgan Baughman and Tiffany Corselli helped the Purple Eagles to a comfortable 45-19 lead going into halftime.
  • Seven straight points from Stroemple in the third bolstered the Purple Eagles' lead and Niagara was ahead of Manhattan, 54-28, going into the fourth quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles ended the game strong, earning their first victory since Jan. 15 and first home victory since Dec. 7. A pair of free-throws from Emily Granruth cemented Niagara's 65-42 win.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Stroemple led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 17 points. Stroemple has scored 15 or more points in nine games so far this season.
  • Stroemple and Rampado led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds each. Rampado also added 16 points for the Purple Eagles.
  • Maggie McIntyre led the Purple Eagles with a career-high six assists.
  • Stroemple, Kharysma Bryant and Tiffany Corselli had a team-best three steals each.
  • Dagny Davidsdottir had a team-best two blocks. Tying her career-high.
  • The victory was Niagara's largest victory since Dec. 7, 2014, when they defeated Manhattan in the Gallagher Center, 64-36.
