Scott Earns All-MAAC Honors For Second Straight Season

EDISON, N.J. – Junior guard Matt Scott was named to the 2016-17 All-MAAC Third Team announced on Monday. Scott earned All-MAAC Third Team honors for the second consecutive season.

The Brooklyn native leads the Purple Eagles in scoring with a career-high 17.3 points per game, in rebounding with 7.0 per game and in steals with 1.3 per game. Scott is fifth in the conference in scoring, seventh in rebounds per game and eighth in steals per game to be the only player in the league to rank in the top-10 in each category.

Scott leads NU with a career-high four double-doubles, has had two 30-point games which are tied for second most in the league, and 12 20-point games which are tied for fourth in the MAAC.

Scott picked up his second career MAAC Player of the Week award on January 30. He averaged 18.7 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game and 3.0 assists per game as the Purple Eagles went 2-1 in three games. Scott, who scored at least 18 points in every game, led all scorers in two of the three games while also collecting double-doubles in two games.

Scott, who became the 45th member of the 1,000 point club on January 28, has turned into a prolific scorer this season. He scored a career-high 34 points, behind a season-high 11 field goals and a career-high six 3-pointers, to lead all scorers in Niagara's meeting with Iona on February 12.  His 34 points are the most by a Purple Eagle in four seasons. Scott's career-high 14 free throws at Rutgers are tied for the most by a MAAC player this season

Scott, who is the only Purple Eagle to start in every game, is on pace to finish the season with career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage and minutes per game.
