Purple Eagles Victorious Over Saint Peter's On Senior Day

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's basketball team closed out its home schedule with a 71-63 win over Saint Peter's on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • Saint Peter's went on a 7-2 run to open the game and dominated on offense for most of the first quarter, but the Purple Eagles came back and after a Rampado layup, were down by only one point, 12-11, with almost four minutes left to play.
  • The Purple Eagles and Peacocks traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter and were tied three times, but Saint Peter's had a narrow 18-17 lead going into the second quarter.
  • The lead went back and forth in the second quarter and a free throw from Kaylee Stroemple gave Niagara a 33-32 lead going into the third quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles began to pick up offensive momentum late in the third quarter. Four points from Sherburne and a three from Maggie McIntyre in the final four minutes of the quarter helped Niagara to a 52-47 at the end of the third.
  • Niagara maintained its lead through the fourth, with five players contributing points for the purple and white, and the team was able to close out its home schedule with a win.

Inside the Numbers
  • Rampado led the Purple Eagles with 15 points and 11 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the season. Stroemple also has a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. This is the first time this season multiple players have recorded a double-double in the same game.
  • Bryant's 14 points are a career-high and Sherburne's 12 points tie her career-high. Tiffany Corselli also scored in double figures; she added 10 points.
  • Bryant had a team-high three steals, tying her career-high, and Sherburne recorded her second career block.
  • Over the course of the game, the lead changed 13 times and the score was tied five times.
  • Niagara's two graduating seniors, Corselli and Emily Granruth, were honored prior to the start of the game.
