BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Purple Eagles women's soccer team fell to Canisius in the first Battle of the Bridge contest of the 2016-17 academic year on Wednesday night.

Game Recap
- The first half of the game was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Griffs. Niagara tallied four shots in the first half of the match, and held Canisius to only six shot chances.
- Niagara's best chance in the first half was a header by Hailey Bicknell, which went just wide of the net.
- Emily Phillips had the first chance of the second half, in the 47th minute; Bicknell crossed the ball to Phillips, who had a clear shot at the goal, but her shot went high. Bicknell followed up with a shot in the 49th minute that also went high.
- Canisius took a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute on a goal that sailed over the head of Samuels into the top left corner of the net. The Griffs extended their lead, 2-0, in the 65th minute.
- Canisius continued its offensive momentum, sneaking its third goal of the night past Samuels to take a 3-0 lead in the 67th minute.
- The Griffs put the game away in the 80th minute with a goal off a corner kick that was deflected by a Niagara defender that barely slipped by keeper Shania van Nuland, who replaced Samuels late in the second half.
