Volleyball Falls To Dartmouth, Army

HANOVER, N.H. – The Niagara Purple Eagles lost to Dartmouth and Army in their last two matches at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

SCORE: Niagara 0, Dartmouth 3 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21)
TOURNAMENT: Dartmouth Invitational
RECORDS: Niagara (1-9), Dartmouth (5-1)

Match Summary
  • The host defeated the Purple Eagles in straight sets.
  • Dartmouth jumped out a 9-1 lead in the first set. Niagara battled back to cut the lead to 19-15, but the Big Green ended the set on a 6-0 run.
  • The second set had seven ties and four lead changes. Trailing 23-18, the Purple Eagles scored four straight points to trim the deficit to one point and then trailed 24-23 before a kill by Emily Astarita finished the set.
  • NU started the third set on the front foot and led 6-2. The set went back-and-forth, but with Dartmouth leading 20-19, the Big Green pulled out a 25-21 win to clinch the match.
 
Purple Points
  • Alexis Gray had her third double-double of the season with 15 assists and 12 digs.
  • Nicole Matheis led NU with eight kills and was followed by Madison May who had seven kills.
  • Rylee Hunt had a match-high 19 digs.
  • Niagara's 57 digs are the most in a three-set match this season.

Coach's Corner
  • Dartmouth played us tough this morning and I felt that we matched them in most every category except kills and offensive efficiency. Needless to say, those are important categories. We did see some very nice performances from several of our newcomers and it was good to see them acquiring game experience. – Head Coach Vilis Ozols

Match Summary
  • Niagara fell in straight sets to an efficient Army team.
  • The Black Knights had a .394 hitting percentage in the opening set en route to a 25-16 first set win.
  • In the second set, the Black Knights led 9-7 and used a 9-4 spurt to pull away for the win behind a .345 hitting percentage.

Purple Points
  • Rylee Hunt had a match-high 16 digs to record double digit digs for the 10th straight match
  • Nicole Matheis led Niagara with eight kills and Alexis Gray had a team-best 15 assists.
