EDISON, N.J. – Niagara lacrosse freshman midfielder
Hailey D'Hont was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on Monday. This is the second straight week a Niagara player has been named Rookie of the Week, after
Caroline Crump earned the honor on March 21.
D'Hont posted four points in each of Niagara's two wins last week as the team extended its conference-best winning streak to four games. In a 14-6 win over St. Bonaventure on March 24, D'Hont registered a hat trick and one assist, with all four of her points coming during a 12-0 Niagara run that spanned more than 40 minutes. D'Hont's eight shots at St. Bonaventure were tied for the most by a Niagara player in one game this season.
The Pittsford, N.Y. native followed up the season-best output at St. Bonaventure with another four-point performance as Niagara defeated Quinnipiac 11-6 on March 26. D'Hont tallied one goal and three assists to go with two ground balls as the Purple Eagles opened MAAC competition with a victory on home field.
Niagara resumes conference play on Apr. 3 at 1 p.m., as the Purple Eagles head to Monmouth to take on the Hawks for the first time since they eliminated Niagara in the 2015 MAAC Tournament. The two-game road trip concludes at Marist Apr. 5 at 4 p.m.
