Swimming & Diving Sets Multiple Top Times At Zippy Invitational

Day Three Results | Zippy Invitational Complete Results

AKRON, Oh. – The Purple Eagles men's and women's swimming and diving team completed the final day of the Zippy Invitational on Sunday. Hannah Charlton's record-breaking time in the preliminaries of the women's 200 butterfly gave Niagara three new program records over the three-day competition.
 
The Niagara men's team finished the Zippy Invitational in seventh place, earning 566 points, while the women's team finished ninth in their competition with 274 points.
 
Day Three Results: Women's Team
  • In the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly, Hannah Charlton broke the program record with a time of 2:08.95. Lindsey Jackson previously set the record at 2:10.24 back in 2011. Charlton's time is the second-fastest by a MAAC swimmer this season.
  • In the 200 butterfly finals, Charlton swam a 2:09.17 to earn a 13th-place finish.
  • All five of Niagara's swimmers in the 200 backstroke swam their fastest times of the season, led by Angelica Gordon (2:11.56) and Lauren Nicastro (2:13.67). Both Gordon and Nicastro's times rank in the top 10 of the MAAC.
  • Sydney Kligys swam a 53.12 in the 100 free to lead the Purple Eagles, nearly two seconds faster than her previous low time this season. Kligys was followed in the 100 free by Kristen Suarez (54.72) and Annie Eckhardt (55.86).
  • Bridgette Ehrmann now ranks in the MAAC top 10 in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:31.00. Eckhardt (2:35.85), Sarah Webber (2:36.09), and Jaime Rolf (2:43.12) also set season-highs.
  • Kligys, Eckhardt, Suarez, and Julia Casolo finished the 400 free relay in 3:35.61, good for 13th at the invitational. Kligys opened the relay completing her 100 yards in 52.97, which ranks as the fastest 100-yard free time by any MAAC swimmer this season.
 
Day Three Results: Men's Team
  • Shawn Warner led the Purple Eagles in the 1650 free with a time of 16:24.14. That time was the fastest by any MAAC swimmer this season. Daniel Ronen's time of 16:42.57 ranks third in the conference.
  • Warner (46.23) and James Crumm (47.08) set season-best times in the 100 free, and those times are the second- and sixth-fastest in the MAAC this season.
  • Andreas Rintel swam a time of 1:56.01 in the men's 200 back finals, a time that ranks fifth among MAAC swimmers. Christopher Fritschi set a season-best with a time of 1:59.56.
  • Nicolas Winograd, Nathan Booth, and Justin Sagasta all swam season-bests in the 200 breaststroke. Winograd's 2:12.68 is a MAAC top-10 time. Booth finished in 2:18.91, while Sagasta swam a 2:19.66.
  • Ronen and Matthew Ricks tied in the finals of the men's 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.12, another MAAC top-10 time.
  • Niagara earned a ninth-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:07.71 from Crumm, Winograd, Warner, and Daniel Leskowicz.
