Two Women's Relay Records Fall On Day One Of Zippy Invitational

Zippy Invitational Day One Results

AKRON, Oh. – Friday marked the first of three days for the Purple Eagles men's and women's swimming & diving teams at the Zippy Invitational hosted by the University of Akron. Two more school records were set after the team broke three at last year's meet.
 
After the first day of competition, the Niagara women are in eighth out of 10 teams with 117 points. The men are seventh out of eight with 198 points.
 
Day One Results: Women's Team
  • In the first of Friday's final events, the Purple Eagles set a new school record in the 200 free relay. Sydney Kligys, Annie Eckhardt, Julia Casolo, and Kristen Suarez completed the relay in 1:36.71, beating the old record by 24 hundredths of a second. The foursome finished 11th in the event.
  • Kligys, Casolo, and Suarez also swam with Bridgette Ehrmann in the 400 medley relay, setting another program record with a time of 3:58.30.
  • Montana Valler (5:38.96) and Claire Schoemick (5:54.72) swam season-low times in the 500 free.
  • Hannah Charlton led the Niagara finishers in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.12, the fastest by a Purple Eagle this season.
  • Kligys led the Purple Eagles in the 50 free, swimming a time of 24.00 to finish 18th.
  • Haily Atkins led Niagara with a 196.60 in the preliminaries of the women's 1-meter diving, followed by Cara Mergner at 153.30.
 
Day One Results: Men's Team
  • Shawn Warner, Nicolas Winograd, Matthew Ricks, and James Crumm led the Purple Eagles in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.52.
  • Warner took sixth place in the men's 200 IM, swimming a 1:51.65. His best previous 200 IM of the season of the season was a 1:54.23 versus Colgate on Nov. 6.
  • Andreas Rintel won the 'C' Final of the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.67.
  • In the 500 free final, Daniel Leskowicz led Niagara with a time of 4:44.95, followed by Daniel Ronen at 4:45.79, the two fastest times by a Purple Eagle this season.
  • In the men's 50 free, Winograd was Niagara's top finisher with a time of 21.90, followed closely by Crumm (21.91) and Ricks (21.93).
  • JaRon Williams finished ninth in the men's 3-meter diving preliminaries with a score of 245.25. Noah Barnard recorded a score of 202.55.
