Women's Basketball Hosts St. Bonaventure For First Game Of 2016-17 Season

Purple Points
  • Niagara returns six letter winners from last year's squad that went 8-23 overall and 5-15 in the MAAC.
  • The Purple Eagles return senior guards Tiffany Corselli and Emily Granruth. Corselli finished the season averaging 9.4 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. Granruth averaged 2.8 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game.
  • The junior class includes forwards Victoria Rampado and Kaylee Stroemple, as well as guard Jamie Sherburne. Guard Kharysma Bryant, who averaged 2.4 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game, is the Purple Eagles' lone sophomore.
  • Adila Gathers, who joined the team midway through the 2015-16 season from St. Francis (Pa.), will be eligible to play in late December.
 
Fresh Faces
  • Jai Moore, a 5-9 guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., Maggie McIntyre, a 5-0 guard from Mantua, N.J., Morgan Baughman, a 5-10 guard from Carlisle, Pa. and Dagny Davidsdottir, a 6-1 forward from Reykjavik, Iceland make up the freshmen class.
  • Carolyn Cosey, a 5-5 junior guard, joins the Purple Eagles from Manor College, an NJCAA Division II program. Cosey played in 22 games during the 2015-16 season and averaged 14.2 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game.
  • Diona Johnson, a 5-9 guard from Davidson College, and Paige Mosley, a 5-10 forward from Clemson University, will be eligible to play at the start of the 2017-18 season.
 
Rampado Returns
  • After missing most of the 2015-16 season due to injury, redshirt-junior forward Victoria Rampado returns to the court this season.
  • In her three games played last season, Rampado averaged 13.3 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game.
  • In 2014-15., Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 12.6 points per game and in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game. She also led the team in free throw percentage (.748) and 3-point field goal percentage (.381). She was named MAAC Rookie of the Year at the end of the 2013-14 season.
 
On The Court
St. Bonaventure Bonnies (0-0, 0-0 Atlantic 10)
  • St. Bonaventure returns six players from last season's team that went 24-8 overall and 12-4 in the Atlantic 10.
  • Junior Mariah Ruff, who was named to the A10 Preseason All-Conference Third Team and the Preseason All-Big 4 First Team, is the returning leading scorer for the Bonnies; she averaged 10.0 points per game in 2015-16.
  • St. Bonaventure was picked tenth out of 14 teams in the preseason poll.
 
Leading The Charge
  • Victoria Rampado, Jamie Sherburne and Kaylee Stroemple have been named captains for the 2016-17 season.
  • Rampado, a redshirt-junior forward from Niagara Falls, Ont., played in three games in 2015-16 before missing the remainder of the season due to injury. She averaged 13.3 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. This is Rampado's second season as a captain.
  • Sherburne, a junior guard from Hudson, N.H., started in 28 games in 2015-16. She led the team in assists, averaging 3.8 per game. She set multiple career-highs over the course of the season, including career-highs in assits (seven), points (12) and rebounds (six). She finished the season averaging 5.6 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game.
  • Stroemple enters her second season as a team captain. The junior forward from North Canton, Ohio led the team in scoring throughout the 2015-16 season, averaging 12.1 points per game. She brought down 6.9 rebounds per game and recroded a career-high five double-doubles over the course of the season. Stroemple started in all 31 games and and led the MAAC in minutes played, averaging 38.6 minutes per game.
