EDISON, N.J. – Niagara women's soccer goalkeeper
Shangyne Samuels has been named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week announced on Monday.
Samuels (3-2-0) started in goal for the Purple Eagles against both Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Fairfield on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Samuels recorded six total saves on the week and allowed only one goal in the Purple Eagles' 3-1 victory over Saint Peter's. She finished the week with a .857 save percentage and recorded her second career shutout against Fairfield on senior day.
This is the second time this season Samuels has been named the MAAC's Defensive Player of the Week. She also received the honor after earning her first career shutout in the Purple Eagles' 3-0 win over Quinnipiac on Sept. 24.
The Purple Eagles take the pitch next at Iona on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
