BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara men's cross country team competed at the Canisius Alumni Classic held at the Delaware Park Golf Course on Saturday
Meet Marks
- Senior Tyler Van Leeuwen led the Purple Eagles to be the top runner in every meet this season. Van Leeuwen ran the 8K event in 26:23.2 to place 28th out of 138 runners.
- The freshman quartet of Ryan Delola (27:25), Ethan Graves (27:41), Matt Whitworth (27:43.9) and Aidan Russell (27:59.3) rounded out the group; Delola and Russell set personal best times.
Coach's Corner
- For a really slow course, the team held their own. We tend to use this meet as a hard workout for that reason, which means for those that did manage a PR, it shows just how fit they are right now. We let Hampton and Van Leeuwen race a little more aggressively, and are pleased with how they attacked the race and where they finished in the rankings; as for Grubbs and Orfano, we're especially happy for those ladies as they just keep setting new personal bests each meet.
- For a pre-conference competition, this was pretty strong. Our packs worked well together and several of the athletes gave themselves a nice boost of confidence. We're at that precarious point of the season where we just need to keep everyone healthy and keep them stress-free.
