NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles close out a two-game home stand, hosting Fairfield on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 p.m. Niagara will honor its graduating seniors prior to the start of the game.
On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles (3-9-1, 2-5-0 MAAC)
- Laura Ortiz leads the Purple Eagles with five goals, 24 shots and 16 shots on goal. Ortiz's five goals are tied for seventh-most in the MAAC.
- Eva Bachmann leads the team in assists with two. Both of her goals on the season so far are game-winners, which ties her for fourth-most game-winning goals in the conference.
- Goalkeeper Shania van Nuland (1-7-1) is tied for fourth-most shutouts with two. She also has 34 saves.
- In the first period, Niagara has outshot opponents 86 to 77.
Last Time Out
- The Purple Eagles hosted the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Niagara defeated Saint Peter's 3-1.
- Ortiz got the Purple Eagles on the board in the fifth minute of the game. Emily Phillips crossed the ball to Bachmann, who dummied the pass allowing Ortiz to hit it first time into the bottom corner of the net.
- Bachmann gave the Purple Eagles a 2-0 lead, scoring on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
- Ortiz scored her fifth goal of the season in the 48th minute. Hailey Bicknell, who earned her first collegiate assist, crossed the ball to Ortiz from the left corner. Ortiz's shot slipped by the keeper into the bottom right of the net.
Last Meeting with Fairfield (2-11-1, 1-4-1 MAAC)
- The Purple Eagles and the Stags last met on Sept. 19, 2015 in Fairfield, Conn. Niagara defeated Fairfield 3-1.
