NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara University hockey head coach
David Burkholder and men's basketball head coach
Chris Casey have received contract extensions through the 2018-19 season.
"Dave Burkholder and
Chris Casey represent the core values of Niagara University," said Niagara University President Rev. James J. Maher, C.M. "They are exceptional educators who embody our Catholic and Vincentian mission. Dave and Chris are both dedicated to the values inherent in the development of student-athletes."
Burkholder, who is entering his 15th season as head coach, has been a part of the Niagara Hockey program since its inception 19 seasons ago. Burkholder has led the Purple Eagles to three NCAA Tournament appearances (2004, 2008, 2013) and has been named the conference (CHA and AHA) coach of the year three times.
"Coach Burkholder has built a prolific profile during his tenure on Monteagle Ridge and has his team poised for contention once again," said Director of Athletics
Simon Gray.
"I would like to thank Father Maher, his senior staff members,
Simon Gray and Steve Butler for their ongoing support and confidence in me running our hockey program now and into the future," Burkholder said. "This is our 20th season at Dwyer Arena and it has been a wonderful ride for me and my family. Also to all the student-athletes that have worn the Niagara jersey and all staff members, past and present, it is because of you that I continue my journey with Niagara University Hockey."
Casey, a coaching veteran of 29 years, is entering his third season leading the men's basketball program. Casey's guidance of the team is paramount as he is rebuilding a program which has been one of the youngest teams in the nation in the last two seasons.
"Coach Casey has worked tirelessly to build the basketball program every day during the past two seasons and has generated momentum with the excellent recruiting class to complement the returnees," said Gray.
"I am extremely grateful to Father Maher and
Simon Gray for this contract extension," Casey said. "Niagara University fosters growth, academic achievement and a rich basketball tradition, and I am honored to continue to be part of it."
