The Niagara cross country teams head to Rosedale Park in Pennington, New Jersey for the 2015 MAAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31. The women's race starts at 11 a.m. followed by the men's race at Noon.
Niagara capped off the regular season at the Canisius Invitational, where the men's team finished sixth out of nine, and the women finished seventh out of 10.Â
Race Notes: Men's Edition
- Nick Orlowski set the program record in the 8k when he ran a 25:56 at the Paul Short Invitational back on Oct. 2nd. Three other on the men's side ran for personal bests, Freddie Liederbach (26:28), Ben Slate (27:46) and Sergio Cruz (27:56).Â
- At the National Catholic Championships Nick Orlowski and Freddie Linderbach paved the way for NU, Nick finished with a time of 20:10.7, while Linderbach was six minutes behind with a time of 26:40.2.Â
- Brendan Dobler was the lone participant on the men's side at the UB Stampede and he finished with a time of 30:48.4.Â
- Back on Sept. 5 the team placed second in the Little 3 Championships. Four Purple Eagles placed in the top 20 on the day, led by Nick Orlowski who finished eighth. Freddie Linderbach finished 11th, with a personal best time of 16:02.70, Tyler Van Leeuwen finished 17th and Jordan Bender came in 20th.
Race Notes: Women's Edition
- Kayla Murphy led NU at a personal best time of 23:21 at the Paul Short Invitational. While five other Purple Eagles on the women's team set personal records in the 6K event. Caroline Hampton (23:26); Maggie Lawler (23:43); Sam Sauer (27:46); Tyler Levengood (24:50); Sarah Grubbs (25:23).
- Kayla Murphy set a personal best in the 5k when she ran a 19:35.6 at the National Catholic Championships on Sep. 18th. Maggie Lawler finished with a time of 19:52.3, her season best.
- At the UB Stampede Niagara was led by Sarah Grubbs who finished the 5k event with a time of 21:05.
- Brianna Malanga ran a personal best to finish in third place at the season-opening Little 3 Championships on Sept. 5. Malanga ran the annual 5K event at 18:16.50.
2014 MAAC Championships Recap:
- Both the men's and women's teams finished 10th at the 2014 MAAC Championships.
- Leading the way for the Men's team was Tyler Van Leeuwen and his 27:05.18, following closely behind was Nick Orlowski who came in at 27:08.70. Jordan Bender finished with a 27:19.23 rounding out the first set of Purple and White to cross the finish.
- Freddie Linderbach and Matt Pond ran a 28:51.43 and 29:12.85, respectively.
- The women's team crossed in two packs of three. Brianna Malanga finished in 23:30.02, with Maggie Lawler right behind her at 23:39.21, then Caroline Hampton at 23;54.02 mark.
- The second pack finished two minutes after the first. Sam Sauer led the way at 25:31.02, followed by Emilee Welton (25:33.86) and Kayla Murphy (25:37.55).
- Natalie Regan was in the middle of the two packs finishing with a 25:00.10
