Cross Country Set To Run In The 2014 MAAC Championships

The Niagara cross country teams hit the road for the MAAC Championships on Friday, Oct. 31 at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, New Jersey.

About The MAACs

This year's MAAC Championships will feature a field of 350 athletes from the 11 member institutions.
The day will get started with men's race at 11:00 a.m., with the women following at 12:00 p.m.
Following the races, the MAAC Cross Country Awards Show will be broadcast for free on MAAC.TV. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.

Race Notes: Men's Team

The men's side is looking to improve on last year's 10^th place finish.
Of the returning runners for the Purple Eagles, Jordan Bender finished with a time of 28:05.11, while Tyler Van Leeuwen came in with a time of 28:26.76. Freddie Liederbach (29:32.62), Matt Pond (29:48.00) and Jon Borek (30:17.26) round out the top-five returnees.
Van Leeuwen scored in 13^th place in the final meet of the season hosted by Canisius. He finished the men's 8k race with a 26:38.3 while Bender crossed the line in 26:53.1 to score in 14^th.

Race Notes: Women's Team

Niagara looks to move up from their 8^th place finish a year ago.
Caroline Hampton, who finished with a time of 24:53.66, leads the returning ladies. Maggie Lawler (25:45.92), Natalie Regan (26:58.38), Chelsea Caballero (27:25.24) and Celine Dreitlein (27:49.31) round out last year's returning top-five.
Brianna Malanga turned in a 19:55.2 to score in 15^th place at the Canisius Alumni Classic to lead the women's team. Hampton came in second for the squad with a time of 20:05.7.
