EDISON, N.J. – The Niagara women’s basketball team earned several Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors on Monday, as sophomore
Kayla Stroman was named to the All-MAAC Second Team and freshman
Meghan McGuinness made the MAAC All-Rookie team.
Stroman set career-highs in points per game (10.7) and assists per game (3.9) this season, including 12.6 points per game and 4.3 assists per game in MAAC play. She set a career-high in points in a game when se scored 24 in the double-overtime game against Marist. The Syracuse, N.Y. native finished the regular-season second in the MAAC in steals (2.4) and fourth in assists (3.9).
McGuinness earned a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie Team after a freshman season that saw her score seven points per game and shoot 45.5 percent from three-point range. The freshman hit her stride in February when she hit 64.3 percent of her three-point chances on her way to scoring 12.5 points per game in the final month of the season. She finished first in the MAAC in three-point percentage and was second out of MAAC freshmen with 51 three-pointers.
The No. 5 Purple Eagles are preparing to face the No. 4 Loyola Greyhounds in the quarterfinals of the MAAC tournament on Friday at 3:30.
