Green Named Student-Athlete of the Week

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – After helping the Niagara men’s basketball team (6-9) to a 2-1 record after this past week's play, Juan'ya Green has earned Niagara Student-Athlete of the Week honors. 

Green had three solid performances on the floor, as the Purple Eagles earned wins over UMBC and Loyola and a suffered a close defeat to St. Bonaventure.  Against the Retrievers, the freshman guard netted 21 points and tied a game-high with five assists.  He continued is strong play with his second career 30-point game as he led all scorers with 32 points against the Bonnies.  His four steals also led the team. 

In yesterday’s 66-61 win over the Greyhounds to open up the 2012 portion of the schedule, Green scored a team-high 18 points, including going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the final seconds of the game. 

Fifteen games into the season, Green is ranked 15th in the nation with his 20.1 points per game, while leading all MAAC players in scoring with 300 points.  He also stands in second in MAAC play with 27 steals.  The Philadelphia native leads the Purple Eagles in assists (57) and free throws made (66).  

Green and the rest of the men's basketball team return to the court this weekend when they visit Iona on Friday, Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. and then travel to Siena on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m.
