NIAGARA UNIV., NY – Niagara men’s soccer standout
Carl Haworth was drafted by the Montreal Impact in the Major League Soccer supplemental draft on Tuesday.
“It’s amazing to be drafted by a Canadian team,” Haworth said. “I’m looking forward to getting into the preseason and showing what I can do.”
The senior from Barrie, Ont. was selected with the first pick in the fourth round by the expansion club that will begin its first season in the MLS in 2012. The draft completes an offseason that saw the forward earn several Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors, including MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and spots on the First Team All-MAAC and the MAAC All-Academic Team.
“Carl getting drafted by the Montreal Impact is a testament to the talent he has and the hard work and determination he puts into every game and training,” Niagara men’s soccer head coach
Chase Brooks said.
His effort was recognized nationally as well. Haworth was named to the East College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) First-Team All-Stars and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Atlantic First Team.
“I want to thank everyone at Niagara, from coaches to teammates and the administration for helping me get to the next level,” said Haworth.
Haworth capped his career at Niagara with a 32-point season. His 12 goals and eight assists led the MAAC and added to his career total of 35 goals and 21 assists for 91 points over his 71 games at Monteagle Ridge.
“The entire NU family is proud of Carl and wishes him the best as he pursues his professional soccer career with the Impact,” Brooks said.
