Mason Named NU Student-Athlete of the Week

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Freshman Antoine Mason of the Niagara men’s basketball team has been named the Niagara University Student-Athlete of the Week after a strong showing at the College Basketball Experience (CBE) Classic last week where NU went 1-2.

Mason was named to the CBE Classic Subregional All-Tournament Team after leading the team in scoring (20.3 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg) in the three games, while picking up 2.0 steals per game.

In the 79-71 opening loss to South Dakota, the freshman guard netted a career-high 26 points to lead all scorers and also added a career-high three steals.  He followed the next game against Mercer with 20 points to lead Niagara in scoring for the second straight game.  He tallied a career-best three assists as well.

Niagara completed the CBE Classic on a positive note by earning a victory against Sam Houston State, 59-52, on Wednesday.  Mason netted 15 points, grabbed seven boards and had three steals.

Mason is one of the two Purple Eagles to have scored in double figures in every single game this season.  As a result, the Queens, N.Y. native is ranked sixth in scoring in the conference with 16.6 ppg.
