NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – After participating in the Winthrop Classic this past weekend, the Niagara women’s basketball team (0-4) recieved a solid performance from sophomore Lauren Gatto who was named Niagara’s Student-Athlete of the Week. 

In the 67-52 loss to the Stetson Hatters on Friday, Nov. 18, Niagara was led by Gatto.  The center scored 12 of Niagara’s first 18 points while adding an assist and two rebounds in the first 11 minutes of the game.  She scored an additional six points to bring her total in the game to a team-leading 21 on the night.

The following day, the Purple Eagles took on the host Winthrop Eagles where Gato contributed three rebounds to the loss. 

In its final game of the Winthrop Classic against the Bradley Braves, the business major hit five of her first six shots to score 10 of the Purple Eagles’ 12 points.  Gatto led Niagara in scoring after she recorded 16 points and seven rebounds in the 67-43 defeat. 

Niagara returns to the court the Friday, Nov. 25 when they host Bucknell at 7 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
