Baseball Announces Fifteen Newcomers

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Niagara baseball head coach Rob McCoy has announced 15 newcomers for the 2020 season.

"Once again, Coach Spatafora has done an excellent job putting together a high-level recruiting class," said McCoy. "We feel really good about both the depth and ability of these young men. They are EAGLES men and have been hand-picked because they embody Excellence, Accountability, Grit, Love, Energy and Selflessness. They will make the university, and everyone involved with Niagara baseball, proud of the type of students, people and players they are and the legacy they will leave here at Niagara."

C.J. Breen | Infield | 6-foot-1, 205 | Livonia, Michigan | Grand Rapids Community College
Breen comes to Niagara from Grand Rapids Community College where he was an NJCAA Third Team Academic All-American selection and was named to the Dean's list four times. Breen began his college career at Chicago State University. In 2018, Breen played in 16 games and started in one for the Cougars and finished the season with one run, two hits and a .118 batting average. Breen spent his first two years of high school at Livonia Stevenson before spending his junior and senior years at Divine Child High School, where he had a phenomenal career. In his senior season Breen was selected to the All-City, All-District and All-Catholic teams after helping his team with its 18th straight district title and second straight Class B regional title. He batted .350 with 22 runs, 21 RBI, 11 doubles, two triples and two homeruns.

Mike Brisson | Infield | 6-foot-2, 180 | St. Albert, Alberta | St. Albert Catholic High School
Brisson excelled on the field and in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout high school. He played at the club level with the Edmonton Prospects Academy and the St. Albert Cardinals and he won seven provincial championships with the team. He was selected to represent Alberta at both the Canada Cup and the Blue Jays Academy Tournament 12, which is hosted at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. He batted .500 during the Canada Cup.

Zach Cameron | Right-Handed Pitcher/Infield | 5-foot-11, 205 | Hamilton, Ontario | Bishop Ryan
Cameron, who played at the club level for the Fieldhouse Pirates, brings a history of success to Monteagle Ridge. Cameron's high school team made five championship appearances and won three championships. He was named his team's MVP and won an Outstanding Achievement Award for his academic and athletic performance. With his club team, Cameron picked up wins in tournaments held at Central Michigan University and the University of Maryland. He was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Perfect Game High School Showdown in 2018.

Marcus Cashman | Right-Handed Pitcher/Outfield | 6-foot-2, 185 | Norwich, New York | Norwich High School
Cashman joins the Purple Eagles from Norwich High School in Norwich, New York. Cameron helped his team to its first sectional game win in 15 years in 2018. In 2019, Cashman was a First Team All-State and First Team All- County selection and was an All-State honorable mention selection. Cameron also excelled in the classroom. He was a member of National Honor Society, an honor roll student and the recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. Cashman competed at the club level for Stealing Home.

Trevor Cooley | Right-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-0, 195 | Randolph, Massachusetts | Merrimack College
Cooley comes to Niagara from Merrimack College. In his career with the Warriors, Cooley appeared in 31 games out of the bullpen and compiled a 2-1 record with a 4.71 ERA and 49 strikeouts over 49.2 innings pitched. In 2019, Cooley made 14 appearances for the Warriors, finishing the season with 30 strikeouts and a 4.45 ERA. Cooley played for the Niagara Power in the summer of 2018.

Chaz DeLuca | Left-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-0, 170 | Chandler, Arizona | Gateway Community College
DeLuca comes to Monteagle Ridge after two seasons at Gateway Community College in Arizona. During the 2019 season, DeLuca made 24 appearances on the mound and earned three saves. He had 29 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.50 over 28.0 innings pitched. He led the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) in appearances and was a team captain. DeLuca was a two-time NJCAA All-Academic Team selection and was named to the President's List four times. DeLuca attended high school at Hamilton High School, where his team won the Division 1 Arizona State Championship twice.

Steven Hospital | Right-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-5, 170 | Oakville, Ontario | Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School
Hospital, a right-handed pitcher from Oakville, Ontario, joins Niagara from Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. Hospital played at the club level with the Fieldhouse Pirates. He graduated from Holy Trinity with honors.

Gavin Krawiec | Right-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-0, 185 | Hamburg, New York | St. Francis High School
Krawiec is a local product, coming to NU from St. Francis High School. In 2018, Krawiec was a First Team All-Catholic selection and a Second Team All-WNY honoree. That year he helped lead SFHS to a Georgetown Cup championship. He played club ball for Full Circuit Power Baseball and Coach Charlie Karstadt. Krawiec was a member of National Honor Society.

Spencer Marcus | Outfield | 5-foot-11, 185 | Chatham-Kent, Ontario | Dodge City Community College
Marcus spent the 2019 season at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas. Marcus played in 51 games and started in 45. He batted .326 with 38 runs, 56 hits, 40 RBI, 11 doubles and nine homeruns. He had four stolen bases on the season. Marcus attended high school at Chatham-Kent Secondary School and played club baseball for the Great Lakes Canadians of the Canadian Premier Baseball League.

Ryan O'Mara | Right-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-4, 190 | Rochester, New York | McQuaid Jesuit
O'Mara attended McQuaid Jesuit high school, the same high school which produced Niagara baseball standout Greg Cullen. O'Mara finished the 2019 season with a 2.69 ERA and helped lead his team to its third straight Class AA sectional finals and the 2019 New York State Class AA State Championship. O'Mara was a Second Team All-County selection in 2017. He competed at the club level with the Rochester Monarchs.

Matthew Panzica | Right-Handed Pitcher/Outfield | 6-foot-3, 185 | Maple, Ontario | St. Michael's College School
Panzica joins Niagara after a successful career both on the field and in the classroom. He was a four-year honor roll student and was his high school's student body president. In 2015, Panzica was selected to play for the Ontario Championship Team at a national tournament and in 2016, his team were Pastime National Tournament champions. Panzica was named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-American Team in 2018 and was also named to the World Top Prospect List at the Perfect Game Uncommitted Showcase. Panzica played summer ball for the Ontario Astros.

Tyler Prospero | Right-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-2, 215 | Batavia, New York | Genesee Community College
Prospero made 11 appearances on the mound in 2019 for Genesee Community College and made seven starts. He tossed three complete games en route to a 5-2 record. He struck out 57 batters in 43.0 innings pitched and finished the season with a 2.93 ERA. In his career with the Cougars, Prospero had a record of 12-1. He was in the top three in the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) in wins, strikeouts and ERA and was a two-time All-WNYAC selection. Prospero went to Notre Dame High School and through his high school career, he compiled a 6-1 record with 78 strikeouts in 52.2 innings pitched and had an ERA of 1.46. He held opposing batters to a .140 average, which was a school record.

Cole Tucker | Infield | 6-foot-1, 200 | Mount Pearl, Newfoundland & Labrador | Southeastern Community College
Tucker joins the Purple Eagles from Southeastern Community College in Iowa. In his career with the Blackhawks, Tucker played in 53 games. He batted .260 with 31 runs, 38 hits, 41 RBI, eight doubles, four homeruns and four stolen bases. Tucker attended Foothills Composite High School and played club ball for the Okotoks Junior Dawgs program. Teams he competed on won the Best of the West Tournament, the Newfoundland Summer Games in 2017 and the Blue Jays Academy Tournament 12 in 2018.

Matthew Ward | Catcher | 5-foot-11, 175 | Mississauga, Ontario | Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Ward competed at the club level with the Ontario Terriers and got a chance to play against his future Purple Eagle teammates in 2018 when NU hosted the Terriers for a fall game. Ward helped lead his high school team to its first ever ROPSSA Championship game. Ward competed at the Perfect Game Underclassmen Championship and was named to the All-Tournament Team after batting .444 with a .600 on-base percentage.

Matthew Wiggins | Right-Handed Pitcher | 6-foot-7, 225 | Merrickville, Ontario | Vauxhall Academy
Wiggins comes to Niagara from the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball and Coach Les McTavish. While at Vauxhall, he was a two-year recipient of the Jan Tolton Memorial Award for community service for being a good teammate and assisting with dorm operations. Additionally, he was selected to compete at the Blue Jays Academy Tournament 12 in Toronto. An Ontario native, Wiggins was named the Athlete of the Year at St. Michael's Catholic High School his sophomore season. Prior to leaving for Vauxhall, Wiggins competed at the club level with the Ottawa Nepean Canadians.
