Bryant Halts Women’s Tennis’ Six-Match Win Streak

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Niagara women’s team had its six-match win snapped in a non-conference defeat against the Bryant Bulldogs, 6-1, on Sunday.

Niagara (13-6) was unable to build off of the momentum from yesterday’s win over Fairfield in a matchup of MAAC unbeaten teams.
The Purple Eagles lost the doubles point, even though Hilary Hansen and Maria Ortiz won their 13th match of the season in No. 1 doubles.

Niagara’s lone win of the day was from Iva Celan in No. 5 singles who dispatched Bryant’s (11-7) Lucy Bird, 6-3, 6-4. Celan extended her win streak to nine matches while tying doubles teammate Sarah Hellstern for the team-lead in wins at 14.

Niagara is home for its next match when the Purple Eagles play Marist on Saturday, April 20 with a chance to lock up the regular-season title.
