SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Niagara men’s tennis team got back into the winner’s column on Sunday by edging the Bryant Bulldogs, 4-3.
The Purple Eagles improved to 13-7 on the season a day after having their eight-match win streak come to an end. NU had to rally in singles after dropping the doubles point. David Raymond won in straight sets to tie the match at 1-1 and Olivier Dufour-Coursol rallied from a set down to win 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-3, for his 10th straight victory.
Michael Elortegui fell in three sets as Bryant (11-9) tied the match at 2-2, but Lorenz Schwojer put Niagara back in front with a 7-5, 6-3 win in four singles for his ninth straight win. Brandon Gallegos dropped a straight set match in five singles to even the match at 3-3. The match came down to No. 6 singles where Mathieu Lacasse outlasted Josh Rubenstein, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to clinch the match.
Niagara will play at Binghamton on Wednesday, April 17.
