NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles topped the Robert Morris Colonials, 5-2, on Saturday at SportsPlex.
Niagara won its four straight match on the 2012-13 season for its first 4-0 start since the 2005-06 season.
Niagara took the doubles point, thanks to wins in the No. 2 and 3 doubles. Lorenz Schwojer and Mathieu Lacasse improved to 3-1 on the season with an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles, while Michael Elortegui and Joseph Smithyman defeated Fernando Leite and Juan Andres Hirmas, 8-4, to improve to 2-0.
The Purple Eagles won one through four in singles. David Raymond outlasted Angus Thomson in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, in No. 1 singles for his second straight win of the spring season. Elortegui picked up his first dual match win with a straight win victory over Jose Limon, 6-4, 6-3, in two singles. Olivier Dufour-Coursol won his third consecutive match in No. 3 singles and Schwojer cruised past Tarun Kishan, 6-4, 6-1 for his seventh straight win and 14th of his last 15 singles matches.
Niagara has two matches coming up this week beginning with Mercyhurst on Feb. 8 at SportsPlex and traveling to play Duquesne on Feb. 10.
