Bison Quad Draw
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Niagara men’s tennis team went a combined 10-1 in singles and doubles matches in the season-opening Bison Quad on Friday.
The Bison Quad consists of players from Niagara, St. Francis (Pa.), Loyola (Md.) and Bucknell.
The Purple Eagles, who finished last season with the most wins in since the 2002-03 season, had an impressive start to their 2012-13 campaign.
NU rolled in its singles matches. In Flight A matches, David Raymond defeated St. Francis (Pa.)’s Andres Rosa, 6-1, 6-4 and Olivier Dufour-Coursol eased past SFU’s Chris Jimienez, 6-1, 6-0. Newcomer Michael Elartequi received a bye and will play his first match on Saturday against Bucknell’s Octavio Canibe.
In Flight B singles, Lorenz Schwojer, Mathieu Lacasse and Brandon Gallegos all cruised to first round vicotries.
In doubles, the team of Gallegos and Schwojer advanced to the semifinals with wins over Loyola (8-1) and SFU (8-4). Also advancing to the semis was the tandem of Elartequi and Raymond who defeated teams from SFU (8-3) and Bucknell (9-8).
